Cotopaxi Information

altCotopaxi is our 16.2h approved Holstein stallion.  Cotopaxi (stamm 776) born in 1997 is a foal champion in Germany purchased back by the stallion owner and presented to the Holsteiner Verband where he was approved in the 1999 Korung. 

Leon Melchior of Studbook Zangersheide says of stamm 776 - "When hearing the number of his lineage, real fans will prick their ears: because lineage 776, after all, produced progenitor Ramiro Z and a very large number of other top-classers."

A proven competitor with astounding versatility, Cotopaxi's first year in competition he secured a second placement in his only outing in the Mrs. T Memorial event a recognized event. He is such a versatile athlete, he was the Pacific Regional and British Columbia Training Level Dressage Champion on his first dressage outing posting the second highest score of  76.88% of the entire three day show for all levels under three FEI judges. But true to his stamm 776 Holstein heritage, Cotopaxi's focus is showjumping where he has found success in the Grand Prix jumper ring, jumping  up to 1.70m in competition in Six Bar competition. He has been sound throughout his career and in 2009 joined young rider Niko Goyette jumping 1.45m,  placing  fifth in the Pepiniere Grand Prix, their first class together.
Cotopaxi is proven capable of winning in all three Olympic disciplines. 

Cotopaxi loves the challenge to compete giving everything he has, full out and his huge stride and agility has earned him a reputation as a speed horse.  An excellant example was under pilot Travis Root , Cotopaxi won a Futures jumper class 6 seconds faster than speed master Rich Fellers on Macginnis.

His action, with an excellent walk, predestines him for jumping where he received high test scores and performed with an almost optimal (perfect) amount of carefulness, technique and potential"

     

Cotopaxi competes in showjumping and stands as a breeding sire as required for breeding throughout the year for mareowners.  He tends to impart his excellant topline, correctness, movement that exhibits exempliary reach to his stride and natural engagement and instinctive jumping ability.  78% of his foals are achieving premium scores at their inspections, scoring 8 for movement . His first foal crops were put into Holstein breeding programs and his broodmares have received premium accolades.  Offspring are starting under saddle winning in jumper classes and enjoying diverse interests such as hunting. Cotopaxi is approved for breeding by the Holsteiner Verband, the American Holsteiner Horse Association, the ISR/Oldenburg North America, the American Warmblood Registry and the Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders Association , the Continental Studbook and the Rheinland Pfalz Saar.

Cotopaxi is  genetically prepotent to sire premium warmblood and sporthorse athletes as he is the product of some of the best Holstein breeding.  He  is by approved stallion  Carbano (stamm 1298 - same as Lord). Carbano is by the double Olympic stallion Carthago Z (by Capitol I). Carbano's dam Borgia is out of Fiance who is a full sister to Lord.Cotopaxi's dam is the state premium mare Acolonia who is by the Grand Prix jumper Lenz by Lagos by Ladykiller xx. Acolonia's dam Colonia was bred by Paul Bahlmann the same breeder that bred Ramiro Z, and she was reportedly his favorite mare, by the stallion Colonel known for siring Grand Vicar. Grand Vicar has most recently been acknowledged as the sire of the great Capitano in the book on Cottage Son xx by Claus Scridde. This would make the transmitter of Cottage Son blood in the greatest pillar of Holsteiner breeding the C line, be through Colonel who is linebred in both Cotopaxi's paternal and maternal lineages. Great products of the Capitol I/Caletto blood nick include Cento, Cumano, Indoctro, Cassini and Cotopaxi's grandsire the great double Olympian medal winner Carthago Z.  Mareowners are empolying these genetics through this exceptional proven stallion  Cotopaxi for their breeding goals in diverse directions breeding for  dressage, hunter, jumper, eventer and foxhunter.
